Kitchen summer camp

Becoming a parent is very difficult I can say, as I am father of 6 years daughter myself. Demands are endless. Since she has nothing better to do, and we live in modern times where we can t send our kids to ground to play. Excessive TV & mobile are completely no-no. We have to keep them busy in fun activities how I do on Sundays.

As a working parents, me & my wife has to share our house chores between us. Like one day she cooks & I look after shopping of groceries. Vise versa. In this we always include our daughter “SWARA”. It keeps her busy & attached to us. With this she is also becoming kitchen enthusiastic & tidy person. Now she doesn’t t throw her clothes on bed but into washing machine. She knows now I keep my peeled onion soaked in cold water before cutting to avoid crying.

Here are some fun kitchen activities you can plan with your kids. You can call it “chef day out or summer time fun”. It will not only save big cash but get your kids bonds with you.

Before we begin, here are some ground rules, where there is no go.

  1. No hard core cooking with gas or electricity

  2. No work with knives or any sharp objects.

  3. No boiling of water of any sort.

  4. No heavy lifting of any kind.

  5. No raw meats or fish preparation.

Here we start now.

  1. Introducing to different veggies- let them open fridge & take out all vegetables. Like tomatoes, cucumbers, iceberg & mushroom etc. show them what can be made from it. For example soup, sauces can be made from them etc.

  2. Showing them different cuts of veggies for salads like batons, slices, rounds, triangles, diamonds etc.

  3. Making dips & sauces – give them boiled chickpeas, blanched tomatoes, hung curd, olive oil, garlic & show how various dips can be prepared & serve with fresh veggies, fries, pita bread.

  4. Pizza with various toppings – give pizza bread, sauce, shredded cheese & different topping like corn, olives, and spinach leaves, chicken & let them bake pizza.

  5. Fresh fruits smoothies & shakes – take all seasonal fruits like mango, chikoo, pineapple, oranges, pomegranate, curd, milk, ice cream & blend into smoothies, shakes.

  6. Prepare Mexican foods like nachos, burritos & quesadillas – give them flour tortillas, corn chips, chappatis, tomato ketchup, cheese etc. give it nice Indian touch.

  7. Baked potatoes with various topping – bake whole potatoes with various toppings like cheese, baked beans, sweet corn mayo, etc

  8. Wraps & rolls – getting some chapattis, tortillas, rotis, pita breads, add some fresh veggies, some dips & some chicken, fish or cheese & let them prepare some rolls, wraps or sandwiches etc.

  9. Making flavored waters – add some chopped fresh fruits, juices, lemons in water, get it chilled. Serve instead of any cola.

  10. Decorating cup cakes – get some readymade market cup cakes &give them freshly whipped cream with different flavors, essences & colors. Then let them decorate with smarties, 100-1000, jelly beans, syrups, topping sauces.

See how easy they are to make. So why to spend your hard earned money on these expensive summer camps, instead you can bond with them over food.

Because all seem unrealistic but food can be distinguish. Your kids will remember these sessions with you forever.
